Inclusion is the practice or policy of providing equal access to opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized, such as those who have physical or intellectual disabilities and members of other minority groups. In short, the meaning of inclusive is that everyone, regardless of their mental or physical abilities, is understood, appreciated, and able to participate and contribute meaningfully.

A minority group are any group of people who, because of their physical or cultural characteristics, are excluded from the others in the society in which they live for differential and unequal treatment, and who therefore regard themselves as objects of collective discrimination. A minority group is distinguished by five characteristics:

• unequal treatment and less power over their lives
• distinguishing physical or cultural traits like skin colour or language
• involuntary membership in the group
• awareness of subordination
• high rate of in-group marriage

It can take many forms, such as bullying, teasing, or rejection, and can have a significant impact on a person’s well-being, self-esteem, and social development.

Social inclusion is the process by which efforts are made to ensure equal opportunities – that everyone, regardless of their background, can achieve their full potential in life. Such efforts include policies and actions that promote equal access to (public) services as well as enable citizen’s participation in the decision-making processes that affect their lives.

Social invisibility means feeling like or actually being invisible or unnoticed by others in your social environment. It can happen when people ignore you or don’t include you in conversations, activities or events etc.
